Sony Photographs is ramping up its own summer blockbuster efforts with the upcoming sci-fi epic action thriller, Elysium. The film sees Matt Damon as dying man armed with a specially enhanced bio-armor that will help him survive his mission to a forbidden intergalactic space station that holds the important to mankind's survival, and is set for release on August 9, 2013.
The film also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner, and is written, co-developed and directed by Neill Blomkamp.
SYNOPSIS:
In the year 2154, two classes of individuals exist: the extremely wealthy, who reside on a pristine man-created space station referred to as Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined planet. The individuals of Earth are desperate to escape the crime and poverty that is now rampant throughout the land. The only man with the opportunity to bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to have to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission - a single that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her tough-line forces - but if he succeeds, he could save not only his personal life, but millions of people on Earth as nicely.
